What days of the week are the actual events?
The conference schedule:
Thursday afternoon - Crank-in at the hotel Thursday evening - meet and greet in hotel.
Friday 9am - CSMSA Meeting at the Mill Friday 10-3pm - Saturday 9-3pm classes Friday evening - Crank-in at the hotel. Saturday night Banquet at 6pm, with speaker Richard Candee at the Mill Sunday - Cleanup, Optional Group Tour of the Textile History Museum in Lowell MA. The Hotel is the Landmark Inn, Laconia NH, link at the left. If you use navigation software, plug in 502 Main St, instead of 480.
To get the conference rate, tell them that you are with the Crankin2010 conference. There are also campgrounds, cottages and B&B's in the area if you wish to extend your trip.
Will classes be held at the hotel or are they at the Belknap Mill?
A Knit-In will be held at the Mill, as well as the "Meet and Greet" on Thursday night. All classes are planned on being in the mill, as well as the banquet Saturday night, in addition, the vendors will also be at the mill. How close is the nearest airport, and what is the airport code?
Closest airport is MHT in Manchester, NH - this is about an hour away. I am hoping that we can get some rideshares setup to get people from the airport to the conference. Once at the conference - most everything is within walking distance. The second closest major airport is BOS in Boston, MA about 2.5 hours away.
Is there airport shuttle service to the hotel?
No. It would be best to make arrangements to share a rental car from the airport.
Flying with machines
If you don't want to fly with your machine, you can pre-ship it (at least 2 weeks ahead of time) to Barbara bclorite@verizon.net and she'll drive them up to Laconia. Lots of bubble wrap and double boxing are recommended. After the conference, she'll ship them back the same way (you are responsible for paying for shipping as well as packing and labeling your own machine).
Is there any type of transport available to get machines to the teaching area from the hotel?
Teachers only: The hotel is just a half-city block from the Mill. You can drive to the mill / Post office parking lot, drop off your machine and gear, then park across the street (free) from the mill or drive back to the hotel lot. After classes you can leave your machine at the mill or if you really need to, bring it back to the hotel with you.
After dinner we will have a knit-in at the hotel where you can practice what you learned in the classes. Food
The Landmark Inn has a simple continental breakfast, for lunch there are numerous restaurants within 2 blocks. Dinner, likewise. A list will be provided.
What to bring
The least amount of stuff possible! A small bar stool can hold 2 machines. If you can limit your supplies to a box 12x12x12 that would be ideal. There will be lots of yarn and supplies from the vendors, so please patronize them. Lighting: the knit in will be in a hotel lobby and small conference room, it is recommended that you bring a small light (a headlamp works very well, and takes little space to pack). In addition there will be some electrical outlets if you need additional lighting. Please make sure your lighting system is stable and try to use fluorescent bulbs or LEDs to cut down on energy usage.
